Politics Driven for the particular Words of Scripture (1679)
French cleric Jacques-Bégnigne Bossuet's (1627-1704) sermons earned him the prefer of Louis XIV. He preached for the court frequently from 1660 to 1669 and was especially well known for his funeral orations. In 1670 he was appointed tutor to Louis' oldest son, and therefore had the weighty job of educating the heir to the tub on the responsibilities of the full. The work that the following excerpts are considered was constructed in 1679 for the Dauphin's advice.
All power is of The almighty. The ruler, [states] St Paul, " is the minister of The almighty to thee for good. But once thou accomplish that which is bad, be afraid; pertaining to he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the ressortchef (umgangssprachlich) of Goodness, a revenger to execute wrath after him that doeth evil. " Rulers then work as the ministers of God and as his lieutenants in the world. It is through them that God exercises his empire…. Consequently, as we have seen, the royal throne is certainly not the throne of a gentleman, but the throne of The almighty himself. Our creator " hath chosen Solomon my boy to sit upon the throne of the kingdom from the Lord over Israel. " And again, " Solomon sat for the throne with the Lord. "
Moreover, that no one may assume that the Israelites had been peculiar in having nobleman over these people who were established by God, note what is explained in Ecclesiasticus: " The almighty has given to every persons its ruler, and Israel is manifestly reserved to him. " He therefore governs almost all peoples and provides them their kings, even though he governed Israel towards a more intimate and obvious method.
Seems like from all this that the person of the ruler is sacred, and that to attack him in any way is definitely sacrilege. God has the kings anointed by simply his prophets with the ay unction in like way as he has bishops and altars anointed. But even without the external application in thus becoming anointed, they are really by their incredibly office the representatives with the divine majesty deputed simply by Providence intended for the delivery of his purposes....
